Women Who Code Twin Cities would like to promote diversity and inclusion in technical conferences by supporting those conference who focus on including members of marginalized groups. We’ve started compiling a list of conferences that support diversity through scholarships, discounts or other methods.

 

Mobile Development Conferences

WWDC — In 2015 and 2016, Apple’s developer conference offered scholarships for conference tickets to members of non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups in tech. Women Who Code is one of the organizations included. Candidates must create an iOS application for consideration and fill out a lengthy application form.

Google I/O — In 2015 and 2016, Google’s developer conference offered scholarships to Women Who Code members for discounted conference tickets. They also offered travel costs to some members depending on need.

360iDev — Full scholarships, including travel expenses, may be awarded to a number of candidates from underrepresented groups. A blind review process determines which candidates will be selected for scholarships.

CocoaLove — Scholarships for conference tickets are available for members of STEM organizations or local iOS/Mac meetup groups.

IndieDevStock — Scholarships are available for community members who come from traditionally underrepresented groups.

 

Other

Google Travel and Conference Grants — Google offers grants for select conferences throughout the year. The scholarship award includes free conference registration and a $500 reimbursement of airfare and accommodation expenses.

AlterConf — AlterConf is a traveling conference series that provides safe opportunities for marginalized people and those who support them in the tech and gaming industries.
